Questions about
wood unfinished shell.
What does 'unfinished shell' include?
The shell includes the complete exterior structure — floor, walls, roof, doors, and windows. It's weathertight. What it does not include is interior finish — insulation, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring, and fixtures. Those are up to you.
Can I live in a cabin shell?
Not immediately — it's a shell without utilities or interior finish. But many customers finish them out as primary residences, guest houses, or rental units. You'll need to add electrical, plumbing, insulation, and interior finishes to make it livable.
What sizes are available for wood cabin shells?
We build wood cabin shells from 12×20 up to 16×40 and larger. The right size depends on your intended use — a weekend hunting cabin needs less space than a full-time residence or rental property.
Do I need a permit to finish out a cabin shell?
If you're adding electrical, plumbing, or using it as a dwelling, most jurisdictions require permits and inspections. Check with your local building department. The shell itself is a portable building, but the finishout typically triggers permit requirements.
How much does it cost to finish out a cabin shell?
Finishout costs vary widely depending on your choices — basic insulation and electrical might run a few thousand dollars, while a full kitchen and bathroom can cost significantly more. The shell itself is the affordable part; you control the finishout budget.
